I worked hard during high school to get inJun 28 2005Political Science
I worked hard during high school to get in. I played Varsity sports, was on the Principle's honor rolll for four years, took AP classes, joines scholastic clubs, and got a satisfactory SAT score. Prove to Berkeley you'll do well with a degree from their institution and they'll let you in.
I went to community college and earned very goodApr 20 2005Geography and Geosciences
I went to community college and earned very good grades, which allowed me to transfer. Many of my friends were rejected right out of high school simply because their SATs weren't good enough (sub 1300). I think it is easier to get in from community college, since there tend to be fewer "4.0" students applying, and they can base their decisions on something more than the slight SAT differences that differentiate the hundreds of high school students with 4.0 GPAs who apply.

1400 SAT, 730/640/710 SATII, 3.95 weighted GPA, middle-college high school, in-state, mad work on personal statement - i failed calculus junior year, so that was really embarassing...i wrote about what i learned from that experience, and i think that is what got me in - i got a second chance...be real on your app...and JC courses help

Want to go to Berkeley? Here are my suggestions:
-do the standard "get good grades and good SAT scores and join like a million extracurricular activities and get maybe two hours of sleep every night and suffer a nervous breakdown in the process" procedure (Who, me? Cynical about the whole college admissions procedure as well as many parents who decide to dump exorbitant expectations on their kids? Never!)
-Build up a high tolerance for panhandlers, public urination, people shoving flyers in your face, etc...
-Learn to accept the fact that your viewpoints and personal beliefs will come under attack and this isn't such a bad thing.
-Get ready for what will end up being the most interesting four years of your life. Berkeley may drive you nuts, but it is never boring.
